Fall 2023 Project Demo

This is a short little clip of a song I've been working on since early 2020 but am only just now getting recorded in a satisfactory way.  Being able to add new parts to my songs whenever I want while working on producing them has really brought out a new level of songwriting for me.  This song, for example, has turned out very different and much more technical from where it first started, and I couldn't be happier with the results.

I've spent a lot of the last few months working a lot on my production quality--shout out to Unstoppable Recording Machine, a super extensive and helpful resource to get your mixes sounding more professional.  They feature a lot of metal/hardcore artists and producers which is a big part of where my music is coming from, so it fits my production needs pretty well.  If you make softer/more pop-based music, this might not be the resource for you.  There's still quite a few layers of polish I can hear missing from my own music and I'm trying to improve as quickly as I can so that I can put out this album I've been working on for seemingly forever.

There's an element of uncertainty to the whole thing because I don't have a band but I have a bunch of full songs written, so I'm just gonna play it by ear.  It may be the case that I release the songs and still have to wait a while until I can play them live, so I'm not making any plans until things become more clear.  I'm just going to keep working on these songs, making them the best they can be in both songwriting and production.  I think they're very unique and so is the album as a whole, and I'm very excited to share it when it's finished.

Custom Made Music Mag - Totem Pocket Combine Fuzzed-Out Riffs With Lush Psychedelics on Self-Titled Debut Album (Sep 2022)

"'Shifter' keeps the fuzzed out guitars going full throttle. This sonic barn burner is full of massive riffs that are surrounded by hypnotic blasts of mind bending melodies. The ethereal vocals and ghostly nuances put everything over the top and provide all the essential ingredients to make it a ‘shoegaze anthem.'"

“'Winter Again' has a more ominous attitude about it as it’s intricate and moody guitars dance around a laid back beat that once again channels the elegance and grace of Pink Floyd. It’s a truly beautiful track that shows off the bands musicianship and undeniable chemistry. These kind of rich psychedelic soundscapes continue with the pieces 'Hitting The Bricks,'..."

Shifter, Winter Again, and Hitting the Bricks were the three songs where I got to contribute the main idea so these snippets were kind of extra special to me.  For Shifter I wrote the main slide guitar riff and chord progression; for Winter Again I wrote the whole chord progression, and Hitting the Bricks I wrote the chord progression up to the bridge where my guitar drops out for a section before coming back for the ending section.

Westword - Put It on Your Playlist: The Best New Music From Denver and Beyond (Sep 2022)

This one was cool because it features Totem Pocket as well as Jellyfish Farm, a Colorado math rock band, and coincidentally I went to college with their drummer--Hugo Mondragon.  Jellyfish Farm started playing shows at some of the school-adjacent events that students would play and I got to see their first gig if I remember correctly at a Halloween party.  It was cool seeing them because there weren't a lot of math rock bands in Denver at the time--I think that's slowly starting to change but it was certainly a rarity back in like 2018.  So this article just happens to feature two guys who went to the same music school.   I guess it's also cool that they put our photo up on the top so my picture is right there for everyone to see, but I really don't like that picture of me 💀

Releases:

Full length album; "The Lowest of Places" (2019)

I don't endorse the lyrics that Ryan wrote on this album, but I still have a soft spot for the period of my life that this music represents and I really think there was something unique going on here musically between Jordan, Eric, and myself.  This was one of many bands that I was in with Ryan and Eric over a period of about 7 years, beginning when we were in high school and extending into my college years.
